The Seattle Pilots: Short Flight Into History

Great Story
For those who have never heard of the Pilots, here's your chance to discover one of the most unusual stories in baseball lore. The players are great interviewees and I don't know how they found some of the footage, but it's like being back in the summer of 1969. A must see for baseball fans and well worth the effort even for those who aren't.

A strange episode in the history of MLB
Except for really avid baseball fans and folks in the Pacific Northwest, many people never heard of the Seattle Pilots, a major league team that was located for only one year, 1969, in Seattle, WA. Competition among cities for a major league sports team is intense, and winning a franchise is a real coup for the cities who get them. Yet, Seattle, having gotten an American League expansion franchise in 1969, was unable to keep the team in Seattle after the Pilots first and only year there. This is a unique story in the history of MLB. How the team was lost to Milwaukee in 1970, the reactions of the people of Seattle, and the roster of players of that 1969 Pilots club make for fascinating story. If you are a baseball fan you should definitely see this film.

Baseball fan
Although a baseball player and fan all my life, I had never heard of the Seattle Pilots. I was in graduate school in 1969, the year the Pilots were in Seattle, and was not paying a lot of attention to baseball beyond attending Twins games a couple of times that summer. I found this film not only enlightening, but really a lot of fun. What a bunch of characters that team was. Mainly castoffs with a few up and comers. This film gives you a good insight into what major league ballplayers are really like, warts and all. One of the more interesting sidebars in the history of MLB. Definitely worth the small price of admission if you care about baseball. Great interviews and the business context of the game.
